The fellowship is offered to those candidates who are at the early to mid-stage of their careers. They will be provided the opportunity to spend 10 months at Chatham House working on an individual research project of their selection.
Selected fellows will participate in the core work of the institute, furthering their professional network in the field of international affairs and developing their expertise (skills) through the leadership program.

Fellowship Duration and Locations
As mentioned earlier the selected academy fellows will spend 10 months at Chatham House between October 2024 and July 2025.
They will be based full-time at Chatham House, London with hybrid working that is also possible.
How Is Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship Structured?
Between three hey fields (areas), a fellow’s time will be split (mentioned ahead).
Completing a Personal Research Project – The fellow will select and design an individual project to do (undertake) with the guidance of the expert of the Chatham House (approximately 60%).
Leadership Program – This is a pivotal (core) part of the Academy Fellowships that aims to develop the knowledge, self-awareness and network of fellows, and to equip the fellows with vital expertise (skills) on which they can draw in their careers (future careers) as leaders in their area/field (approximately 20%).
Contributing to the Opening Research Activities – Working closely with their host research team and other teams of Chatham House as appropriate, fellows will make a contribution to present (existing) research priorities in line with the mission of the Chatham House (approximately 20%).
Eligibility Criteria
- This fellowship program is available and open to all nationalities.
- Interested candidates need to possess a complete BA degree or its equivalent education and hold experience with conducting research.
- The ideal candidates for Richard and Susan Hayden Academy Fellowship are those who are at the early to mid-stage of their careers and should be from one of these fields or works – NGO, academia, government departments, business, media, or civil society.
- All candidates have to possess knowledge of, and an interest in international affairs, their selected research area, and the mission and research of the Chatham House.
- There is no age restriction for the application.
Note: Fellows are required to work full-time towards their fellowship program, hence, it is not possible to do (undertake) a fellowship simultaneously as pursuing work or studies.
Criteria for Selection
- The applicants must have experience in conducting independent research and possess an undergraduate or postgraduate-level education or have equivalent professional training or experience in a related field/area.
- They must have related background experience, including their experience in the area/field of the proposed research, as shown through a resume (CV).
- They must have a proven potential or leadership experience.
- How commitment to the Chatham House mission, values, and goals and to discovering evidence-based solutions to some of the globe’s most pressing international challenges.
- They need to be able to communicate how this fellowship will enable them to generate a positive impact according to (in line with) the Chatham House mission and overarching purpose of Academy Fellowships as mentioned above.
- They should show motivation to do (undertake) the fellowship, meet all deliverables of fellowships, and take full benefit/advantage of the networks, opportunities, and events offered at Chatham House.
- The applicants are required to show their proficiency in spoken English.

Available Remuneration and Benefits
- Successful fellows will receive a monthly stipend amounting to £2,365 which will make the coverage of London living costs including utilities, accommodation, food, other basic expenditures, and transport.
- The Academy will cover reasonable expenses (costs) relevant with:
- Relocation such as train, flights, other transportation to and from the United Kingdom, three nights of accommodation, extra cases or boxes, visas, etc.
- Payment of the United Kingdom’s Immigration Healthcare Surcharge that gives you (allows) access to the United Kingdom National Health Service (note: you could be required to pay for optical and dental medicines and treatments prescribed by a doctor), and
- Outreach, research, and dissemination expenses (costs) such as travel, fieldwork, conferences, roundtables, publication, events, etc.
