Eligibility Criteria for New Zealand Government Short-Term Training Scholarships

Applicants should be from any of these countries or territories – Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, French Polynesia, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tokelau, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Tonga, Wallis, Vanuatu and Futuna.
At the time the application is submitted, the applicants have lived in their countries of citizenship for the last two years or more. There are exceptions for the diplomatic corps and their families: A member of the diplomatic corps or a dependent of a member of the diplomatic corps, residing (living) outside their own country is eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Applicants must not be citizens or permanent residents of any of these countries – Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Bahrain, Chile, any European Union country, Iceland, Japan, Israel, Norway, Kuwait, Oman, Russia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Seychelles, Switzerland, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, United States of America, or the United Kingdom. There are exceptions: applicants from these countries or territories are eligible to apply – French Pacific Territories, even though they are French citizens. Niue and Tokelau, even though they are citizens of New Zealand. New Zealand-Samoan and Timor-Leste-Portuguese dual citizens.
Applicants should not be serving in the military presently.
They are a minimum of 18 years of age at the time they start the scholarship.
Within the period of the last 5 years, the applicants have not had a New Zealand Scholarship terminated.
They have a minimum of one year of full-time or two years of part-time work experience (whether paid, voluntary, or unpaid) that relates to their career and/or proposed training program.

They expect to meet the academic entry requirements (including requirements for the English language) for their planned training program.
