Education and research opportunities are offered by The OIST Graduate School through its Research Inter ship Program in STEM fields. As far as the duration of the internship is concerned, it typically happens from 2 to 6 months. These short-term placements provide students with the opportunity to obtain experience in a specific laboratory or to learn a particular technique.

Interns will be mentored by a professor (under the direction of a professor) and they will contribute to the research activities of OIST. OITS endows the students with experience working in an environment of research under the OIST faculty’s direction.

OIST offers research internships twice a year. These internships are conferred on a competitive basis. Selection of the candidates is massively competitive and is dependent on the suitability of the intended research, available funding, space, and academic background.

Eligibility Criteria OIST Internship in Japan 2023

The applicants, who would like to be get awarded this internship abroad opportunity, have to meet the eligibility criteria. Students who are in the final two years of their undergraduate or Masters degrees in universities, colleges, junior colleges, and vocational schools overseas or in Japan, or graduates of such institutions can apply for this research internship at OIST.

Presently enrolled students have to possess approval from their home institutions. Applicants’ academic background needs to be appropriate to their chosen/desired host unit(s) at OIST.

Note: Research Interns belonging to a university/institution in Japan should prepare and bring their own insurance when accepted to the OIST Research Internship Program.

Financial Benefits Associated with This Internship Program

They will be provided with an internship allowance of JPY 2400 per working day (non-taxable and weekends excluded)
The commuting allowance will also be offered in the form of an OIST Shuttle bus pass.

Accommodation will be offered. Interns will get a furnished apartment that is on or off campus.
Assistance in the insurance process, visa acquisition, and local registration will also be provided. The assistance will only be provided to the students, not to their dependents.
