Lithuanian Government Scholarships for Master Degrees – Details

For those applicants seeking scholarships for masters programs in Europe, Lithuanian scholarships offered by the Lithuanian Government appear to be the best option. Funding offered by the Lithuanian Government is available to the citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, China, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Moldova, Ukraine, and foreigners of Lithuanian origin from non-EFTA and non-EU countries. 100 grants are available.

Successful candidates will receive monthly scholarships and grants covering the study cost. There are quotas for citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, foreign citizens of Lithuanian origin from EFTA and non-EU countries.

Eligibility Criteria for Lithuanian State Scholarships for Master Degrees

If you would like to apply for this scholarship, you need to meet the eligibility requirements mentioned ahead.

The citizens of one of these countries are eligible to apply – Azerbaijan, Armenia, China, Belarus, Georgia, Japan, Israel, South Korea, Moldova, Ukraine, or a foreigner of Lithuanian origin from non-European and non-EFTA countries.
Applicants from Belarus (citizens of Belarus) need to possess a valid residence permit in Lithuania.
Candidates must have a grip over Lithuanian, English, or other language in which the study program will be delivered/taught.
Applicants have to possess a Bachelor’s degree by the end of the 2023/2024 academic year or they need to be a fourth-year student of integrated studies if the studies last six years/third-year student of integrated studies if the studies last five years at a higher education institution in Lithuania.
Students/applicants are required to have an official letter of acceptance or pre-acceptance for full-time Master’s degrees from a Lithuanian university/higher education institution, including confirmation that the language level of the student/candidate is sufficient for the selected study program. In the case of integrated studies, the student or the applicant must possess an official confirmation letter issued by a Lithuanian university/higher education institution certifying that the student/candidate is studying an integrated study program and indicating the year of studies. The document has to confirm also that the language level of the student is sufficient for the selected study program.
Since the state scholarship can only be granted once, a student who has already been awarded funding under this scheme will not be eligible.
In the case of an overseas (international) joint degree program with a portion of the studies (as a mandatory mobility period) being in the candidate’s home country, funding can be provided only to the study portion held in a university or a higher education in Lithuania.
Remember, Lithuanian state scholarships cannot be offered to candidates who have already obtained/received a Master’s degree.

Funding Available for Lithuanian Government Scholarships for Master Degrees

100 grants in total are available to the citizens of eligible countries (monthly scholarships and grants covering the cost of studies) ensuring quotas for eligible following countries:

Belarus (10 grants)
Ukraine (20 grants)
Foreign citizens of Lithuanian origin from non-EFTA and non-European countries (5 grants)

The monthly scholarship to be offered is 550 Euros. The grant for study cost is limited to and cannot be higher than the national standard study price.

Important Notes

It is worth noting that the application for Lithuanian State Scholarships is a separate process, not having any influence on admission at all to full-time Master’s studies at universities or higher education institutions in Lithuania. Interested candidates are advised to apply for a full-time Master’s degree, then afterward, for the Lithuanian Government scholarships for master degrees.
It should also be noted that the application procedure for Master’s degree programs is handled by each individual university in Lithuania.
