Kofi Annan Fellowship in Public Health Leadership – Details

The seventh Secretary General of the United Nations, Nobel Prize Laureate and founding chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, the late Kofi Annan exemplified visionary and principled leadership. The purpose of the fellowship is to support and nurture exceptional, mid-level to senior public health individuals (fellows) from Africa in gaining leadership expertise and capacity to manage and lead impactful public health programmes.

About the fellows in this programme, they will be public health professionals from African Union Member States and will contribute to and lead the implementation of the new public health order for Africa. They will also develop the next generation of public health leaders from the continent.

The first cohort of the Kofi Annan Fellowship in Public Health Leadership programme was launched in 2021 on 7^th April. It carried a total of 20 fellows who were from 14 different countries.

For the 4^th cohort of the programme, the applications are now open for submission. It is scheduled to commence in June 2024 this year.

Eligibility Criteria for Kofi Annan Fellowship 2024

If you like to be considered for this fellowship opportunity, you must:

Be a national/citizen of the member states of the African Union.
Hold a postgraduate degree in any related field in public health.
Possess 10 years of experience (professional experience) in any field of public health including but not limited to human medicine, health, finance, health policy, health economics, animal health, or environmental health.
Be employed full-time in any field of public health in a private or public institution in Africa.
Be equipped with a sound/good track record or be able to showcase the potential for effectual public health leadership where they can register the impact on public health outcomes of populations in Africa positively.

Financing Availability (Funding) for Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme

Successful fellows will be provided with all learning and development materials by Africa CDC. All costs associated with the fellowship programme will also be met by the Africa CDC including travel, insurance during the residential placements, and daily allowance. Fellows will also be supported by the related software for online learning.
