The successful applicants will join the school’s psychological science research group to study for a PhD program investigating noise stress in adults. The candidates/PhD students will also get valuable teaching experience by supporting the university’s (School of Psychology and Social Work’s) undergraduate psychology programs as Graduate Teaching Assistants across the 4 years of scholarship.

About PhD Project 

As far as this project is concerned, it investigates psychological strategies to mitigate the effects of environmental noise. As we all are aware that noise pollution happens to be a common aspect of the environment which is detrimental to a number of health aspects, cognition, and well-being.

The team of supervisors carries experience (track record) in producing seminal research in adult cognition and stress. This team is also a part of the University of Hull’s School of Psychology and Social Work. The research in psychological science revolves around four themes i.e., Understanding Other Minds, Sensation and Perception, Thinking, Imagination & Memory, and Behavior and Ecology.

Research Training

Being a researcher at the University of Hull, you will do the postgraduate training scheme alongside your main degree so that you can gain knowledge and develop research skills that you will need ahead in your career. You will also be provided with an additional Certificate or Diploma in Research Training apart from your PhD degree.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements for the University of Hull PhD Scholarships

  • You need to have a 2.1 or first-class undergraduate degree in the field of psychology or a closely relevant discipline.
  • The scholarship is available for both full-time and part-time study.

Funding Availability

As a successful candidate, you will be offered a fee waiver and a maintenance grant/stipend for the 4 years of full-time study that makes the coverage of your research period of the PhD program. The fee waiver for the academic year 2023-2024 has so far not been confirmed but as an idea, it was £4,596 (Home fee) in the academic year 2022-2023.

The maintenance grant for the academic period 2023-2024 is £18,622 per annum. This grant increases each year in line with the UKRI’s recommended stipend allowance.

Note for International Applicants

This scholarship opportunity comes with a home fee waiver only that will not make coverage for the full international fee. Thus, being an international candidate, you will need to pay the difference between the home fee and the international fee. Besides, you will have to provide evidence that you have enough funds to cover this since there is no additional funding available.
