Nature of the POSCO Visiting Fellowship
The East-West Center each year hosts 4 to 6 POSCO Visiting Fellows from the beginning of March to the end of February of the following year. The visiting fellows of POSCO are in residence at the East-West Center for 1 to 2 months and conduct research and undertake writing on an agreed topic.
Research Areas
The fellows at POSCO (POSCO Visiting Fellows) conduct policy-related research on contemporary issues in Korean studies. This particular fellowship is for generating constructive and informative research in four important areas, namely:
- Security Issues for Korea and Northeast Asia
- The Two Koreas and Northeast Asia
- Economic and Social Issues in South Korea
- Political Challenges in Korea
Eligibility Criteria for POSCO Fellowship
The eligibility criteria include the following requirements.
- The fellowship is open to exceptional scholars and policymakers who are working on Northeast Asia-relevant issues.
- Applicants for this fellowship have to propose research within the four designated areas of focus.

Required Documents for POSCO Visiting Fellowship Program
A cover letter that indicates the research theme or project for which the application is submitted.
A CV that could be circulated among the staff at East-West Center (do not add your personal information, telephone, postal address, fax numbers, and email)
Name any three referees, including their full names, titles, telephone and fax numbers, email addresses, and postal addresses
Research proposal (three to five pages) which should do the following:
- Explain the issue or issues of the proposed investigation
- Give details of the research method
- Mention the proposed study’s relationship to ongoing work in the field (area)
- Clarify how the proposed study can develop/advance regional cooperation and development
- Propose fellowship duration required, the expected time that the candidate (applicant) can be in residence at the East-West Center
- Mention the anticipated publication product
