Next Generation Internship Programme for Young Graduates – Details 

In response to an identified need for structured practical capacity increasing for young West Africans, WACSI launched a Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP) in January 20008. It aimed at growing and developing the next generation of practitioners and African scholars.

The Next Generation Internship Programme for Young Graduates primarily focuses on young West Africans who are either early career professionals or fresh graduates searching for work experience in WACSI’s core work areas.

The internship is a six-month program that aims to develop the next generation of African leaders by endowing them with hands-on experience in WACSI’s core areas of capacity development, policy influencing and advocacy, and knowledge management. Interns will be able to participate in the activities of WACSI, increasing their professional skills and civic awareness to address critical development issues in West Africa.

  • Writing and communication skills (both written and spoken)

  • Strong internet skills
  • Bilingual expertise (skills) – English and French/English and Portuguese
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills (able to work well under pressurized situations with minimal supervision and in a multicultural ambiance/environment)

  • Willing to learn and take initiative

Required Qualifications for Next Generation Internship Programme for Young Graduates

Interns are required from Nigeria, Cape Verde, and Senegal who are interested in developing their professional capacity and increasing their civic consciousness. These selected interns will be embedded in the core areas of work of WACSI such as policy influencing and advocacy, capacity development, and knowledge management.

Those interested in applying must possess a minimum of a first degree in international affairs, public policy, political science, law, development studies, or relevant fields. They should also show their interest in non-profit organization management and civil society.

Funding Availability – Call for Applications: Next Generation Internship Programme

Successful candidates will be offered a fully funded opportunity. The institute will provide the interns with full support such as:

  • Travel costs (flight to and from their home country)
  • Furnished accommodation
  • Monthly stipend
  • Lunch during working days for the entire duration of the internship

How to Apply for the Next Generation Internship Programme for Young Graduates

It needs to be noted that those will be preferred who have higher proficiency in English, Portuguese, or French and who have a working knowledge of one other. The successful interns will spend a substantial part of their internship working at the WACSI office in Accra (Ghana). The period of internship will be from January to June 2025. It must be noted that those who are unable to complete their 6-month internship will be required to refund the total cost of the internship package to WACSI.
