Since the project is laced with numerous phases, those who are chosen will be required to actively participate in all the phases, including vision planning webinars, conference, and the implementation of seed funding grants.

Young Leaders Conference (3rd September to 5th September 2025) – Details

The conference will be hosted by the Sawa Project, which has been built on the novel model of the Young Leaders Conference developed by the MCW Global. The conference is an expansion of the Young Leaders Program that is utterly focused on leveraging leadership to make solutions for region-specific issues via regional networking.

This conference welcomes youngsters who are between the ages of 25-35 and are from Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, Somalia, and Tanzania. This opportunity seeks to engage youngsters presently active in the fields of mental health, either through professional work, studies, or community engagement.

On the part of the applicants, they need to be able to demonstrate their connection and engagement with mental health issues through their present work, studies, or lived experiences.

Eligibility Criteria for the Young Leaders Conference 2025

Those who are interested must:

  • Be professionals related to mental health or presently active in the same field through either studies or lived experiences
  • Be between the ages of 25 to 35
  • Live in countries, namely Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, Somalia, Tanzania, or Uganda
  • Be interested in professional development, leadership, mental health initiatives, lived experiences, or community development
  • Be fully determined and committed to increasing professional competencies, fostering networking opportunities, developing cross-cultural understanding, and becoming effective leaders
  • Be interested in widening and expanding their work and efforts in the field of mental health
  • Be committed to attending this 3-day conference

Available Benefits

The Young Leaders Conference – Nairobi – It is mandatory from 3rd September to 5th September 2025, which will address key aspects of mental health, including leadership development, challenges and opportunities, community engagement, and resource mobilization.

Vision Planning Webinars – It is mandatory from 20th September to 20th October 2025. These are 3 additional webinars focused on vision planning that will follow up on the conference. These are set to help the attendees build and widen an idea into a concrete project plan.

Financial Assistance and Mentorship – It is also mandatory from January to June 2026. Participants of the conference with actionable project plans will then be invited to apply for financial assistance, which will be up to $1,000 to help them in implementation. Post-conference, all participants will be required to apply for the funding. Remember, up to 10 projects will financially be supported.
