Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship – Study in the Netherlands (Fully Funded)

Several full scholarships amounting to € 34,000 (which includes tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend) each academic year for high-potential, exceptional students from outside the EU (European Union) who have been admitted to a master’s degree program at UM. The most interesting factor of this scholarship is that it consists of both the NL Scholarship (financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in conjunction with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences) and the High Potential Scholarship (financed or funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund).

Eligibility for the Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship

The scholarship is for international students who are from outside the EEA/EU region wishing to follow a full degree program in the Netherlands. Let’s find out the eligibility criteria for the scholarship. All interested candidates are required to meet the following requirements:

  • Candidates must possess a nationality in a country outside the EEA/EU, Switzerland, or Suriname, and meet the requirements of getting the entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands (for complete details, you may check eligibility requirements on the official announcement)
  • Applicants do not possess dual nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland
  • They have applied for admission to a participating full-time master’s degree at Maastricht University (you may check the participating programs)
  • Candidates are required to meet the specific admission requirements of the master’s study programs to which they have applied
  • They have never participated in any degree-seeking higher education program in Holland (the Netherlands). Those who have completed their exchange programs in the Netherlands are eligible to apply for this scholarship
  • As far as age restrictions are concerned, applicants should not be above 35 years of age on 1st September 2025
  • They have earned/obtained outstanding results during their previous education programs, as demonstrated by their latest grade transcript showing their GPA of 7.5 out of 10 scale or higher
  • Candidates can apply only once, thus, you need to make sure all of your documents meet the requirements before they begin their application. Documents cannot be added or replaced after the application is submitted

Note: Remember, the Maastricht University (UM) NL-High Potential Scholarship is a very competitive scholarship, therefore, it must be noted that only 2% of the applicants are conferred the scholarship.

It is worth noting that a mandatory part of this scholarship is a room that will be allocated to the students. If you accept the scholarship, it means you accept the room. If you refuse the room, the scholarship will be cancelled.

The amount for a scholarship (€15,925) for living costs (€ 1,225 per month) will cover the following expenditures and can be broken down as follows (it must be noted that the amounts are subject to change)

  • Housing: €600
  • Travel: €100
  • Telephone: €60
  • Clothing, hobbies, and going out: €125
  • Books and study materials: €90
  • Miscellaneous: €90

Duration of the Scholarship

  • 25 months for a 2-year master’s program
