Eligibility Criteria for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship 2025

Candidates are required to start a course in September 2025. They have to certify that they:

  • Are nationals of a Commonwealth developing country and presently are not studying or living in a developed country.
  • Have not studied lasting one year or more in a developed country.
  • Are not able to afford (pay for) studies in the UK through themselves or their families.
  • Agree to come back (return) to their respective country to study or work as soon as the scholarship ends. The commission will only consider those requests where the extension leaves to remain in the United Kingdom post-scholarship (award) for moving from Master’s studies to PhD program. Strict conditions will be imposed.
  • On the part of DFID, it requires the university to certify when submitting its shortlist of candidates that they are enough proficient in the English language to study the program for which they have applied. This simply means that the applicants will need to satisfy the requirements concerning their competence in the English language which are a condition of their offer of admission.
