Relevant Details about The British Council Scotland SGSAH EARTH Scholarships 2023

The purpose of this program is to promote the role and interventions of the arts and culture sector, environmental arts and humanities, addressing the climate emergency and their capacity for interdisciplinary research within science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM) contexts.

The program is all geared up to generate opportunities for research and international mobility that will develop as well as support latest approaches to address the world climate crisis challenge, and also support cultural interchanges and sustainable research within and beyond humanities, the arts and cultural sectors.

A best program for higher education and research, it endows the applicants with scholarships for PhD and early career researchers who are based outside England to come to Scotland to obtain in-person and hybrid exchanges for 3 months (up to) in year 2023 in the field of environmental arts and humanities.

Eligibility Criteria

To get this opportunity for postgraduate education, the applicants have to meet the eligibility standards. Let’s check out the eligibility criteria below:

  • The program is targeted to PhD and early career researchers (ECRs), who are registered at or graduated from any of universities outside the UK and who are working within the field of environment arts and humanities, who can come to Scotland to start working with an academic mentor (assigned to them) and access networks plus available resources of a host higher education institute in 2023.
  • The interested candidates need to be registered presently for a PhD or graduated with a doctorate (PhD) that largely comes under Arts and Humanities subject areas.
  • Research proposals of the candidates have to come under Arts and Humanities subject areas.
  • For the interdisciplinary PhDs, candidates’ 50% minimum project has to come within the disciplines of Arts and Humanities.
  • This program strongly focuses and encourages research project proposals which are laced with interdisciplinary approaches beyond the Arts & Humanities.

Note: For program’s purposes, the early career researchers (ECRs) have to be within one year of notification of award of their doctorate (PhD). Under exceptional conditions/circumstances, this could be extended to two years.

Required Documents

  • CV (up to 4pp)
  • A full research proposal made by the applicant. It should also mention details about how the applicant will benefit from Cluster membership, training and development activities and cohort-building
  • Justification of resources and budget plan
  • A letter of support is also required from applicant’s PhD supervisor (up to 2pp)
  • A letter of support needs to be provided from the proposed host institution (should be from the head of department of equivalent). It should be up to 2pp.
